Description:

This course focuses on technologies and workflows in managing digital moving image and audio assets throughout an asset’s lifecycle. Under the umbrella of “digital asset management,” students will learn how to apply concepts of digital curation and preservation to actual systems and storage environments. Topics discussed include file formats and transcoding, technical and preservation metadata, metadata modelling to encompass more than one media type, storage options, estimating costs, creation and preservation workflows, and developing functional requirements for researching software solutions. We will review national and international digital preservation initiatives. Leaders in the field of digital asset management will guest speak in classes, and there will be three field trips to see digital asset management in action.
